[Comment] Salivary gland biopsy for diagnosis of Parkinson’s disease?

Although the semantics are still debated, the consensus theory is that Parkinson's disease probably begins several years, or even decades, before the onset of motor symptoms, and not only caudally to the dopaminergic neurons of the substantia nigra, but also outside the brain. This theory has important implications for understanding the mechanism of Parkinson's disease, and, from a practical perspective, raises the tantalising possibility that disease-modifying treatments could be offered to individuals before overt manifestations of the illness, when they are most likely to be beneficial.
