[Comment] Classifying change and heterogeneity in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis
Difficulties and uncertainties in diagnosis, measurement of severity, and staging are common to all neurodegenerative diseases. In the past 10 years, substantial changes in disease classification and new criteria have been proposed for Alzheimer's disease and Parkinson's disease. The primary goal of these revised systems is to enable early diagnosis, which is of great importance for timely care and successful clinical trials. A second goal has been to better define clinical subtypes and to separate monogenic forms from sporadic forms of disease.
