[2015 Round-up] Movement disorders: advances in 2015
Movement disorders, such as Parkinson's disease, are highly prevalent in the elderly. In fact, Parkinson's disease is the second most common neurodegenerative disorder after Alzheimer's disease. Despite our use of the term Parkinson's disease to designate a single clinical entity, the symptoms and pathophysiology of this disorder can be very heterogeneous. The ground breaking introduction of levodopa 50 years ago improved clinical outcomes substantially, and studies on pathophysiology and therapy continue apace in 2015.
